Razer Huntsman V3 Pro Review: Can This Be Considered Cheating?

Razer just came out with their V3 Pro line, and the keyboards have some unique and impressive features that many in the gaming community are unhappy about. These features are helping improve user gameplay drastically, and that improved gameplay is being considered cheating by the community. In this review, we’ll look at the Razer Huntsman V3 Pro, and check out everything new, including the Snap Tap and Rapid Trigger features.

Review

With the Razer Huntsman V3 Pro, you get a magnetic wrist rest which is comfortable if you’re gaming for a while. The Aluminum plate is built well and has a smooth metal finish. You get a dial on the top which can be used for volume, changing the actuation distances, and more. This keyboard also comes in a tenkeyless and a mini version.

The Analog switches in the Huntsman V3 are linear, which means that they are pretty smooth. They have an actuation force of 40g, and with the per-key stabilizers pushing on the key feels nice and quick. The double-shot PBT keycaps are nicely textured, and with them being shine-through and the keyboard having per-key RGB, the RGB looks amazing. You get a multi-function media key right next to the dial, and the two buttons to the left of that are macro buttons. If you hold the FN key it only lights up the keys which have a secondary function, this is a nice detail that Razer included.

The Razer Huntsman V3 Pro just got a firmware update 3 weeks ago, and with that update, it got the new snap tap feature. This feature mostly affects first-person games like Counterstrike and Valorant, where you have to stop moving before shooting so that your aim doesn’t get affected. When you press the FN key together with the Shift key, snap tap turns on by flashing the A and D keys. With snap tap, when you’re moving, if you press the D key while you’re holding the A key or vice versa, it sends the input of the last key you pressed, making a big difference when you’re stopping or strafing to aim. This is a firmware feature, so games won’t be able to tell if you’re using it. You can configure the keys to use snap tap with.

Rapid trigger mode eliminates any key travel time. Instead of a fixed reset point, keys can reset instantly with an upward motion of just 0.1mm.  Even though I am a beginner at Valorant, these features improved my strafing and allowed me to aim and shoot while moving. I cannot give you the point of view of a professional gamer using this keyboard, but, if the Huntsman V3 works well enough for me, a pro can use it to cause some serious havoc in ranked lobbies and tournaments. You can use the dial to change the actuation points from 0.10mm up to 4.00mm.

Verdict

The Razer Huntsman V3 is an impressive keyboard, with good RGB and good switches. The Snap Tap and Rapid Trigger features are interesting, and I can see why most people don’t like them. However, when you use these features with this keyboard, you can’t help but enjoy the game. The only downside to this keyboard is its price, the Huntsman V3 retails for $250, which is very expensive for a gaming keyboard, but you can expect this from Razer.
